WELCOME
I hope you find the name of the blog somewhat funny. As a Crohn's disease patient, I know first-hand that life can make you mumble a similar phrase under your breath multiple times a day and the daily struggles that make that very phrase bubble to the surface.
I wanted to create a blog dedicated to my health journey as a Crohn's patient, a Mother, wife, sister and friend. I have never wanted the disease to define me but after a 15 + year battle with it, it sometimes feels as if it does. This is going to be a place where I can vent, learn, educate and hopefully meet some new faces in the IBS world.
Which brings me to my formal introduction... My name is Brooke! I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 13 when I went to my pediatrician for what my parents and I thought was pink eye. He noticed a significant amount of weight loss and a paler-than-normal skin color for winter in Wisconsin. He had some labs ordered for that day where the results showed a very high SED rate ( showing signs of inflammation) and a high white cell blood count, confirming anemia and a possible signs of disease. From there, I was to be seen at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. After I had the pleasure of prepping for my very first (of many, many) colonoscopies, I was confirmed to be living with Crohn's. Which explained the weight loss, inflammation in my eyes ( NOT pink eye), anemia, fatigue, occasional stomach pains after eating and bouts of constant diarrhea. So nice to meet you!
Besides a patient of the disease, I am also a Mother to a handsome 18 month old, Beckham, married to an amazing man, Ryan, who also has to double as a caregiver, unfortunately. An avid reader and Google researcher ( Siri is my best friend!), a wanna-be half marathon runner (lets say "goal orientated"), a self-diagnosed Bravo-holic, (OBSESSED with The Real Housewives of ________) and makeup fixated fool who would rather go au naturel.
That's just a little about me.. I would love to get to know you and help each other along on this obstacle called Crohn's.
All my best,
Brooke
